Shannon Sovndal, MD
Shannon Sovndal, MD, serves as Chief Medical and Strategy Officer for PatientCare EMS Solutions, where he partners with executive leadership to advance clinical excellence, strategic growth, and enterprise strategy across the organization. He works closely with operational leaders, hospital systems, physician partners, and acquisition teams to help build a leading EMS platform.
Dr. Sovndal is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. Throughout his career, he has served as medical director for numerous ground and air EMS agencies, fire departments, and critical care transport programs, with leadership spanning emergency medicine, EMS system development, trauma systems, aviation medicine, and physician leadership. He previously served as team physician for the Garmin-Sharp Professional Cycling Team and has served on the boards of the Association of Air Medical Services, the National Association of EMS Physicians Colorado Chapter, the MedEvac Foundation International, and other regional and national EMS organizations. He continues to maintain an active clinical practice in emergency medicine. This combination of clinical depth and strategic leadership positions him to strengthen medical oversight and drive growth across PatientCare EMS Solutions and the communities it serves.
Dr. Sovndal earned his medical degree from Columbia University, where he received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism in Medicine, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Stanford University. He is the author of several books, including the Amazon bestselling Fragile: Beauty in Chaos, Grace in Tragedy, and the Hope That Lives in Between, as well as Cycling Anatomy and Fitness Cycling.
